Long Weekend Craft Day.

So this is the fourth weekend in a row where Scott has left me alone. It lonely but I spent the day making crafts……………I know what else is new lol.

Today I finished a new wreath made of two different crochet flowers with bit of left over yarn and a scrapbooking layout of when I got to meet Wendel Clark. No I’m not a hockey fan but Scott and my brother are and I got his booked signed for a Christmas gift last year.

I might be back this weekend but if not have a great time.

Sunflower Wreath

So today while I was watching Captain Philips with Tom Hanks and I made a sunflower wreath that I saw on YouTub https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1ghVAWdiAQ

I found the foam circle and mesh on clearance at Michaels plus they had an additional 25% off coupon good even for sale items. GOOD DEAL

The item that cost the most was the T pins which I recommend using over straight pins. I purchased a 100 pack and only have 10 left so make sure you get enough.

I used a smaller roll of yellow mesh (5.5 x 45) but it turned out fine and I used the whole role.

Umbrella Wreath May 2014

Here is my new wreath hope you like it. It’s perfect theme considering how much rain we are getting.

  • Normally I would have used a broken umbrella but I just tossed all mine so I found a cheap one from the Dollar store.
  • I stuffed the bottom with empty bags but you could use news papers or flyers. Just to fluff it out and help give the flowers something to rest on.
  • I wish I used ribbon with wire so the bow would stand up but this is what I had.

Halloween Wreath and Haunted Halloween House

So I have been busy since I hurt my leg and made a cool Halloween wreath and Halloween decoration for Scott bedroom door. I made a duplicate for Charlie and Emily I hope they like it.

Halloween Wreath

I figured I need a stronger frame of wreath then a flimsy foam frame I normally use and I lucked out at Michaela Arts and Craft I found a broken Styrofoam wreath in the “Buy As Is” for $3.00 which is so much cheaper than the $16 normal price. Since I was going to cover the wreath with ribbons then it did not matter I fixed the broken part with duck tape!!!

I hit the dollar store as soon as items were being unpacked for Halloween to get the best selection, glue it all together with hot glue and eureka I have a wreath.

Paper Flower Wreath

Flower Wreath Sept 2013 001

I can’t take credit for the creative genius of this gorgeous paper flower wreath—it’s originally from the Fancy Pants Designs blog and was created by Ronda Palazzari. It is gorgeous.

Materials Needed:

  • Patterned paper (I used 3 differnt sheets but 2 of each)
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Foam floral ring
  • Buttons and/or beads

It is best to do this like an assembly line. I started by cutting all of my strips of paper, then folded them all, then cut, etc. Some of the steps can be done while watching TV!

1.      Cut your paper into strips. You need three strips per flower and you’ll need 2 different sizes of flowers.

  • For the larger flower cut your paper into 1.5 inch x 4 inch strips.
  • For the smaller flower cut your paper into 1 inch x 3 inch strips.

Here is how I cut the papers and it gave me the following:

  • 36 Small flowers
  • 28 large Flowers

2.      Fold your strip in half from top to bottom. Then fold it in half length wise

Flower Wreath 2

3.      Using your scissors, cut in an arc from the outside to the fold part. This makes the point of the flower

Flower Wreath 3

4.      Unfold the pattern paper and you’ll have a squished oval shape.

Flower Wreath 4

5.      Now fold this oval in half top down, you will see the backside of the patterned paper.

6.      Fold part of one side back up.  Then flip it over and do the same thing on the other side other side.

7.      Fold in half again

8.      Holding the center, run your finger underneath each petal to pop it out.

Flower Wreath 8

9.      You will need 3 petals for every flower

10. Now you are ready to assemble your flowers. Cut small circles out of the scrap paper for the base. for the large flowers I used a 7/8″ circle punch for large flowrs and 1/2″ circle punch for small flowers.

11. Take your glue gun and add a good sized drop of hot glue on the center of the base.  Put all three petals of the flower side by side on the hot glue.  While the glue is still soft, pick up your flower while holding it in the center and fluff the petals so it looks nice and full.  Then let the glue harden and voila!  A beautiful paper flower! Repeat until you have enough flowers to fill up your wreath.

I used approximately 15 large flowers and 25 small flowers

13. To build your wreath, take your flowers and place them randomly around the floral ring using hot glue to secure them in. Keep building around until your wreath looks full. I started with the larger flowers and then filled in the spaces with the smaller ones

 14. After i had the flowere were I wanted them I added jewls from the Dollar store it gave it a finished look.

Remember the Father’s Day Tie Wreath when I used foam tubing uses for pipes, which is great considering it only cost about $1 and if you buy form wreaths from Michaels it could be almost $14. I did not come up with this idea I took it from The Penny Parlor http://www.thepennyparlor.com/search?q=wreathb

Foam Wreath

Now Scott will NEVER  admit this to the general public but he likes to watch me makes crafts, and he finds it interesting how I design things While I was making this wreath he decided I NEEDED something in the center. Joking around he suggested a photo of him……….well you know what that made me do!!!  That’s right I hunted through photos and found this one of him playing dress up with his niece….if has a flower feel to it don’t you think???????

Crayon Wreath

So Labour Day is almost here which means back to school time and Emily is off to Kindergarten …….so exciting

So in honour of her going off to school I made a Crayon Wreath

Back to School wreath 1

Back to School wreath 2

I could give you step by step instructions but so many people have them out there I am not going to stress out.

  • I personally just cut a 12 x 12 circle wreath from a card board box just to use as a sturdy surface to glue on and another 12 x 12 circle wreath from scrapbooking paper to use s back ground.
  • I divided my crayon colours to go from light to dark, but you can just randomly pick if you want and started to hot glue.
  • Add some decoration

St Patrick Wreath

Here is my St Patrick wreath………..I am really happy with this one compared to my Valentine wreath I made last month.

I am still learning how to use my Silhouette Cameo but things are getting easier. I was cutting out the clover and I accidently put the speed on the slowest setting and said to cut twice so I had enough time to empty the dishwasher and make a sandwich for lunch while it cut 6 clovers…….lol

Normally I would make an Easter wreath but with Easter being the last weekend of March it seems silly, however Earth Day is on April 22, maybe I can make one for that…..guess I need to put my thinking capon for that design.

Hope you like the new wreath would love to hear back from people.
